Congratulations to CEEP Deputy Director (Research), Dr Matthew Navarro, who has been appointed as a tenured Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences at UWA.

Matt brings an interdisciplinary perspective to practical marine management challenges across fisheries, conservation and offshore wind.
His current research includes improving behaviour change campaigns for sustainable recreational fishing, developing social and economic benchmarks for Australia’s Commonwealth Marine Parks, and working with Saltwater Noongar peoples on Sea Country priorities and cultural exchange.
His appointment strengthens CEEP’s connections with the marine science community, partners and Traditional Owner groups, while supporting new approaches to integrating environmental economics and the bio-physical sciences into marine decision-making.
Matt’s appointment also means CEEP’s leadership now spans permanent academic staff across three UWA schools, strengthening our capacity for interdisciplinary research and collaboration across environmental science, economics and policy.
Congratulations, Matt! We look forward to seeing the new research and collaborations that grow from this next chapter.
